Milton Canales navigates his own path between tradition and innovation. His adherence to traditional farming methods, while adapting innovative approaches is a guiding philosophy that has seen his coffee excel year in & year out. At "Los Monos" every bean that is cultivated- is done so under his watchful eye, and the flavour profile of every sip bears the impression of his conscientious and caring hand.
Many years ago, Sr. Armando Zeledon made it his mission to rebuild the abandoned farm now known as La Esperanza – a name that proved to be particularly well-chosen, as La Esperanza means “The Hope”. In this undertaking, Sr. Zeledon was indeed hoping to take advantage of the superior growing conditions the property enjoys high in the mountains of San Juan Del Rio Coco.
Our light roast is a bright and bursting cup featuring jasmine, lemon and raspberry with a bright, invigorating acidity that is both clean up front and satisfyingly refreshing at its finish.
Perhaps the most complex of our three roasts, this medium coffee blossom picks up on the bright notes of a lighter roast and marries them to the earliest elements of a darker roast. With balanced acidity and a smooth, full body, fruity and floral notes play around a bounty of caramel and sugar cane.
Bold without brash, our dark roast brings forward notes of both vanilla and chocolate with smooth body and smoky hints. Rounded and full, Luna is the tea rose that offers all the mystery and luxurious complexity that a dark roast should have.
One of the identifiable practices that we’ve sought to do since our inception, has been to discover exciting coffees that are transparently sourced, all the while being meticulously cultivated & held to the highest level of quality.
Our most recent discovery is one that we immediately felt a kinship to, and upon exploring the breathtaking vistas of Estate “Un Regalo/The Gift”, it was undeniable that its namesake was something we knew we’d cherish.
Producer and coffee savant extraordinaire, Luis Alberto Balladarez has devoted much of his knowledge and passion into the continued excellence of this majestic and ethereal-like Estate. Witnessing the way that he’s embedded modern agricultural technologies, while not abandoning traditional farming methods, has long been a source of inspiration for us. Year, after year- Luis continuously places in the finalist position of the Cup of Excellence. He’s been a influencer, mentor and leader to countless in the Nicaraguan coffee industry, and we count ourselves, as beyond fortunate to be able to showcase Luis’ “Gift”- an incredibly flavourful coffee with complex notes, that transcends far beyond your average coffee tasting experience.
